Q. When would you use the linearize function of the UDM40 meter?


You would use the linearize function when the output characteristic of a transducer is non-linear. For instance, in figure 1 below is the output characteristic (distance versus output current) of an inductive proximity sensor with 4-20mA output. If you want to accurately display the distance, the instrument must be able to compensate for the non-linearity of the transducer.
