Q. When would I need to introduce a delay on the activation or deactivation of an alarm when using a UDM meter?

A “delay on activation” is necessary when a short alarm condition must not be considered. For example (figure 1, left side), in a pressure control system, the influence of air-bubbles that lead to short pressure drops must not activate the down-type alarm. A “delay on deactivation” is needed when the alarm condition might be too short to be detected by the control device (figure 1, right side) or when the device controlled by the output contact requires a minimum working time once it is activated (for instance a pump).
